Dhirubhai Ambani Childhood

Reliance Industries founder chairman Dhirubhai Ambani (born on December 28, 1932 – July 6, 2002) was born in the village of Chorwad, in Saurashtra (Gujarat). Chorvad is the district of Junagarh in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

He breathed his last on July 6, 2002, after a major stroke.

Dhirubhai’s Father Hirachand Govardhandas Ambani was a school teacher, who earned very little in those days and had a simple way of living. Dhirubhai’s mother, Jamanaben, was a smart woman and knew how to save every penny during the hardships.

It is believed that Dhirubhai was the favourite child of both Hirachandbhai and Jamanaben despite his being an enfant terrible.

Dhirubhai possessed immense gusto and enormous energy and was always determined to do what he wanted to do in exactly the way he wanted it done.

Dhirubhai was precocious and highly intelligent and also as highly impatient of the oppressive grinding mill of the school classroom.

  • For his excellent business acumen and never-say-die spirit which made Reliance one of the topmost business empires in the country and the world, he was conferred with numerous honors including Dean’s Medal, Lifetime Achievement Award for Corporate Excellence and Man of the Century award. Additionally, he was named ‘Man of 20th Century’ by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

  • Posthumously, he was conferred with the ABLF Global Asian Award at the Asian Business Leadership Forum Awards.

In one of the interview, Kokilaben expressed that she was married to Dhirubhai Ambani in 1955, but she did not dream that her life would change so much. It was after marriage she saw Mumbai for the first time.

Kokilaben spent her childhood in Jamnagar, which was not as developed as it is now. her father, Ratilal Jashraj Patel, headed the post and telegraph office there. He was a simple, austere and honest man and my mother, Rukshmaniben, was the perfect homemaker.

Kokilaben has two more sisters and two brothers. She was fond of reading and singing and mostly sang devotional songs. In the 1940s, there were only government schools, so she matriculated from the Sajuba Girls’ High School in  Jamnagar, Gujarat, India.

1. Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani

Mukesh Ambani is eldest son of Dhirubhai Ambani and was born on 19 April 1957 (age 60)  in Aden, Colony of Aden (now Yemen).

He resides at the Antilia Building, one of the world’s most expensive private residences. Its value is close to $1 billion.[16][17] As of 2015, Ambani ranked fifth among India’s philanthropists, according to China’s Hurun Research Institute.

Mukesh Ambani is married to Nita Ambani since 1985 and has two sons, Anant Ambani and Akash Ambani, and a daughter, Isha Ambani. They live in a private 27-storey building in Mumbai named Antilia valued at US$1 billion and it is said to be one of the most expensive homes ever built. 

MukeshAmbani, attended the Hill Grange High School at Peddar Road, Mumbai, along with his brother and where Anand Jain, his close associate, was his classmate. He received his BE degree in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology(UDCT), Matunga. Mukesh later enrolled for an MBA at Stanford University but withdrew to help his father build Reliance, which at the time was still a small but fast-growing enterprise.

In an interview with Rajdeep Sardesai in March 2017, Mukesh said that his favourite food continued to be idli sambar and his favourite restaurant remains Mysore Café, a restaurant in Kings circle (Mumbai) where he used to eat as a student at UDCT from 1973 to 1977.

Anil Dhirubhai Amabani was born on 4th June, 1959 in Bombay, Bombay State, India and is Chairman of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group which came into existence in June 2005 following a demerger from Reliance Industries Limited.

His major business interests in entertainment includes 44 FM radio stations, nationwide DTH business, animation studios, and several multiplex cinemas throughout India. He is married to former Bollywood actress, Tina Munim and has two sons Anmol and Anshul.

In 2008, Ambani is also credited with India’s largest IPO of Reliance Power which was subscribed in less than 60-second on offer, fastest in the history of Indian capital markets till date.

Ambani made his debut into the entertainment industry with an acquisition of a majority stake in Adlabs Films in 2005, a company with interests in film processing, production, exhibition and digital cinema, the company was later renamed Reliance MediaWorks in 2009.

The two Ambani sisters — Dipti Salgaonkar and Nina Kothari — had kept off the bitter Reliance ownership battle between two brothers, Mukesh and Anil Ambani.

The sisters, however, kept by the side of their mother, Kokilaben, urging the brothers to resolve the issue amicably.

There has been no details from the Reliance group on how big will be the share of the two sisters in the now-split Reliance group, or if they will be given a one-time cash settlement.

Both are married to industrialist husbands and do not live in Mumbai. Nina has also launched Javagreen, a nationwide chain of coffee and food cafes. Both have a son and daughter each.
